After five years of intense collaboration and discovery, the TECTONIC Project has successfully come to an end, making a major step forward in the sustainable preservation of marine Cultural Heritage on a global scale.

By bringing together archaeologists, engineers, geologists and digital experts from across the world, the project shaped a cooperative ecosystem where science and culture truly meet. Through this interdisciplinary approach, TECTONIC successfully reached all its objectives, setting new standards for documentation, conservation and site management in submerged environments. 

From the pilot sites in Argentina, Italy and Greece, the research teams developed advanced 3D reconstructions and photogrammetric models of shipwrecks and submerged structures, offering groundbreaking insight into their archaeological, geomorphological and ecological complexity. These results turned innovation into concrete applications, providing practical tools to enhance site monitoring and protection in a changing environment. 

TECTONIC also focused on creating decision-support tools and open, low-cost robotic solutions for documenting underwater sites. The project defined and validated integrated conservation methodologies, tested effectively through on-site operational campaigns and joint field missions.

Beyond technology, the project nurtured people and collaboration. Mobility and capacity-building initiatives strengthened a dynamic network of professionals, fostering the exchange of knowledge and the development of shared practices. This collective effort has led to a replicable cooperative model that can inspire and guide future heritage projects worldwide.

Over the years, TECTONIC Project also sparked a vibrant community, connecting researchers, divers, and heritage professionals, and transforming scientific collaboration into a shared movement. This collective energy helped raise awareness and nurture curiosity for the hidden treasures  beneath the sea, reminding us that safeguarding our submerged heritage relies on shared knowledge, responsibility, and dedication.As the project reaches its conclusion, the TECTONIC consortium looks back on a shared journey that has expanded knowledge, built lasting connections, and paved the way for new ways to protect our underwater legacy.
