The first step is gone

While the partners of the Tectonic project are now busy with the Kick-off meeting, we can have a look at the photos of the conference they held yesterday.

After the welcome, the Project Coordinator, Mauro La Russa,  professor at the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Science (DiBEST) of UNICAL, displayed the objectives of the TECTONIC project in the framework of the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) – Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE), under which the project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 with grant agreement No 873132.
Dr. Dolores Elkin from Conicet-Argentina, has made a brief exposition about what Archaeology (in particular Underwater Archaeology) is and presented then the Argentinian pilot site selected for the project: the steamship Magallanes, located in the water of Puerto Deseado (Patagonia). She also presented the great research job her team made last years with another shipwreck, laying in the same area: the HMS Swift, sunk there in 1770.
Later, Prof. Fabio Bruno, from the University of Calabria, illustrated the long experience of his team about research projects in the field of preservation and dissemination of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
Professors, students, delegates of the DIMEG, DIBEST and DIMES departments and of the spin-off involved in the project joined the conference.
The first step is gone. Let’s wait for news from the Kick-off meeting today. Stay tuned!
